To ensure proper sizing of the new gas line, gas meter and regulator, please list the proposed natural gas equipment to be installed by equipment/appliance type, BTUH input rating and gas input pressure requirements.
To properly size the new service line and meter, we need accurate information of the required BTUH rating and pressure requirements for each piece of equipment. Washington Gas strongly encourages customers to work with a licensed, qualified HVAC contractor or plumber to obtain this information. This information can also be obtained from the manufacturer’s appliance name plate affixed to each piece of equipment.
Washington Gas will design your new natural gas service installation project based on the equipment and load demand information you provide below. Please be advised if your actual load requirement exceeds the information you provide below, Washington Gas reserves the right to re-design and perform a secondary re-evaluation of any required contribution.

Please note, there are certain areas within the service territory that are served by low pressure mains (4” WC). After receipt of your application Washington Gas will reach out to inform you if you are located in one of our low pressure areas. When requesting 2PSI pressure, through the meter, it is the customer’s/contractor’s responsibility to ensure that the appropriate step-down regulator(s) (Maxitrols) are installed on the interior customer-owned houseline to serve equipment requiring a lower input pressure rating.
Washington Gas strives to meet all customer expectations with regards to service installation dates. The typical time frame for a simple single service installation can range anywhere from 90 to 120 days depending on job complexity. Gas main extension requirements, permitting delays, easement requirements restrictions, inclement weather and other restrictions may cause further unanticipated delays. We will make every effort to meet your expectations and keep you informed should we experience any delays.
In addition:
- The area of construction must be within 6” of final grade for new construction projects prior to service installation.
- All debris and other hindrances must be cleared from the underground service installation area prior to the anticipated installation date.
- It is the property owners’ responsibility to identify and mark any privately owned underground lines on your property. Examples of these lines include, but are not limited to, underground, sprinkler systems, propane lines, electric lines, septic systems, wells etc. Washington Gas cannot accept liability for damage done to unmarked or improperly marked private underground lines.
Please indicate the requested date of your underground service installation.
Please choose a date no sooner than 60 days after final, successful submission of this application.

Please upload a copy of your site plan or property plat here, indicating the requested meter location. This document should also contain location markings of water, sewer, septic, and other underground utilities
A copy of the property site plan or property plat is a requirement of all permit agencies within the Washington Gas service territory. Without this document, Washington Gas cannot proceed with your application. If you cannot locate a copy of this documents your mortgage lender may have a copy of them. In many areas, you can also obtain a copy of the site plan from your local county clerk’s office, county tax assessment office or the office of the Recorder of Deed. If unavailable elsewhere, consider hiring a surveyor who can complete a new measurement of your property and provide you with a new site plan.
Note: The Town of Leesburg permits require a plat showing the property/homeowners water and sewer line from the street to the entry of their property and up to the house. Arlington County requires a full-sized (to scale) approved site plan with the engineer seal/stamp for new construction.
